Miracle 41: Acting By Faith

This gem of a missionary views his decision to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a miracle and I absolutely love it.

One that particularly stands out to me is how I came to the decision to go on a mission. I was 24 years old, and life was busy! I had a great job at a bank, working in the residential lending division. I was also making my way through school, studying business. Things seemed to be going along at an amazing clip. I was finally focused, and getting things done. At this point in my life, I had only been going to church for about 8 months, having been inactive since the age of 13. For some reason, a mission continued to pop into my head, what seemed like daily. I ignored it, and rationalized my thinking, then ignored it some more. How could I go on a mission? I will be 27 when I get back. I will have 2  years left of school to finish. I want to get married and start a family. To boot, I will need to be working, and be making money for the future! So much faced me on the tail end! I felt overwhelmed just thinking about it. Frankly, it seemed impossible. I prayed about it often. I continued to get the impression, that i indeed needed to serve a mission. One night, after working late, I sat in my office, and decided to call my Bishop. That night, I went straight from work to the Bishop's office, to meet with him. I was nervous. Many thoughts were going through my head. Many doubts filled my mind, and seemed like they were going to be the victor. I was able to make it to the church building. That night, I filled out all of my missionary paperwork. The only thing left to do was to get a doctor's appointment, as well as a dentist check up, which were able to get done, miraculously, in the following two days. I still was nervous, but I was going for it. I guess this is what 'acting by faith' really was. I was putting my faith to the test. The second I submitted my papers, an overwhelming sense of peace came over me. I knew without a doubt, that this is what I needed to do, and that everything would take care of itself post-mission. I feel so blessed to have this amazing opportunity to serve the Lord. To think that I almost let it pass me by, makes me sick. I am so grateful for the hand of the Lord that guided me through each trial and tribulation. With each decision I made throughout this process, the Lord was by my side, teaching me, and helping me along. I will be forever grateful. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
